Spikes story
A Common Offence?
During the summer of 2001, research was conducted that suggested
that this type of offence was more common than first thought and
the concern was such that it was felt the matter ought to be addressed.
This research was conducted among an average age group of 20
– 21 yrs with responses from 80% female and 20% male respondents.
Many were aware of ‘spiking’ but the perception was
such that it was believed it mainly occurred in nightclubs. Of
course we now know that this is not correct, and the offence does
not discriminate by venue. You are just as in danger at home or
at an office party as you are in the nightclubs and pubs
9% of all respondents had been spiked with only 13% of those
reporting the incident to the police. Reporting the incident to
a friend or parent was more likely. Therefore as a parent or friend
reading these pages you might pick up on some useful information. |
