School Governors

Governors make major decisions regarding the school's curriculum, its budget, the staff and the premises. The Education Department Client Services division provides a wide range of help and support services for school governors, including training courses and access to a network of local support groups of governors. Governing Bodies are provided with funding which allows them to 'buy-in'to the service's training and development programme. Governing Bodies are made up of parent governors, teacher governors, non-teacher governors, local education authority governors and co-opted governors who represent the local community. In Voluntary Aided and Voluntary Controlled Church Schools, the Governing Body also has foundation governors. In all schools the Head Teacher may choose to be a governor.
