Haughton Education Village and it's Sporting Facilities
'Haughton
Community School' is soon to become part of the 'Education Village' which
along with Harrowgate Hill Primary School gives Darlington 36 million
pounds worth of brand new high quality education infrastructure. The Village
will be the first in the country to be built under the Private Finance
Initiative (PFI) and when completed will teach over 1,400 pupils from
the age of 0 to 19.
Some of the main features of the Village will be the inclusion of children
from Springfield Primary School and children with special education needs
from Beaumont Hill Technology College. As well as integrating children
of different educational needs, there are also plans to work with social
services, the health authority and higher education to encourage family
learning on the site.
With Beaumont Hill's special technology status and Haughton's arts college
accreditation, pupils from all schools and the wider community will be
able to enjoy the improved facilities.
Extensive sporting facilities
When the Village is opened in January 2006 it will provide extensive sporting
facilities, including 7 - 9 football pitches with similar drainage as
at Chelsea football club! A multi use games area, a large performance
hall, a 4 court sports hall, 4 further smaller halls, a performing arts
studio, a dance studio and two swimming pools; one a 25 metre pool and
the other a hydrotherapy pool.
Community use outside of school hours
The school users of the Village will have use of the building from 7.30am
to 6.30pm during term time. Outside of these times, Kajima, the contractor
building the Village will be encouraging as much community use as possible
and if you would like to know more about community use, you may want to
contact Ben Smith on 0191 404 7117 or e-mail ben.smith@kajima.co.uk
