| (The Schools' Effectiveness Service from January 2003) Darlington Local Education Authority is committed to raising achievement for all. Through its Education Development Plan (EDP), the LEA has set out priorities to support schools' improvement. These priorities comprise much of the business of the Schools'Advisory Service - improving the quality of teaching and learning, supporting Key Stage 3 Strategy, raising attainment for all pupils - are examples. Schools are supported according to a Code of Practice set out by the DfES, which states that LEA support should be weighted towards those schools requiring it most. Each school has a named attached adviser who meets with the Head Teacher and provides a link between the school and the LEA. The Schools'Advisory Service provides information, guidance and advice for Head Teachers, governors and staff through both formal and informal means. The Schools' Advisory Service arranges for professional development of staff and gives advice on curriculum matters and statutory regulations, as well as government initiatives. Through the Director of Education, it provides advice and monitoring for Cabinet. Further information is available from the Scools' Advisory Service, Education Department, Town Hall, Darlington DL1 5QT. NOTE: It should be noted that the current Advisory Service is undergoing a process of major reorganisation into a School Effectiveness Service. A draft blueprint for the new service has been written in consultation with all stakeholders and the process of change should be completed by January 2003.
